Foot chase results in more charges for Beaver City man

BEAVER CITY, Neb. — After a foot race through downtown Beaver City Thursday morning, the Furnas County sheriff’s office added two new charges against a Beaver City man wanted in three counties on a string of offenses including forgery and carrying a concealed weapon.

Gregg A. Klein, 19, of Beaver City, sits in jail in Beaver City on warrants from Furnas, Phelps and Lancaster counties.

Furnas County Sheriff Kurt Kapperman reports that at 11:06 a.m., Thursday, his received a report that Klein, wanted on a local arrest warrant from the Furnas County court for driving under suspension, was in front of Kelley’s Grocery Store in downtown Beaver City.

Upon a deputy’s arrival, Klein exited the vehicle and ran from the deputy. A foot pursuit ensued.

Kapperman said that Klein ran into a house in the 200 block of 9th Street, and was taken into custody on the back porch of the residence. After taking Klein into custody, the deputy learned that inside the house were two juveniles and their mother who were extremely shaken up.

Klein was transported to the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office and jailed on the following warrants: Furnas County, driving under suspension, bond $7,500; Phelps County, forgery, second degree, bond $5,000, and delivery of a controlled substance and carrying a concealed weapon, no bond; and Lancaster County, theft and failure to appear, bond $5,000.

Klein was also jailed on two new Furnas County charges of resisting arrest and trespassing.

Kapperman said that bond has not been set on the new charges and an arraignment date has yet to been set.
