OMAHA, Neb. — Robert Botsford of McCook was recently inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame through the United States Kido Federation in Omaha.

Botsford, a fifth-degree black belt, has been a martial arts instructor in McCook since 1998.

“I would like to show my appreciation to my students past and present, my family for their support and my wife for allowing me to follow my passion of being part of the martial arts,” Botsford said. “I have made a lot of sacrifices to learn and teach, and missing some of the family events, but have tried to make it up in other ways.”

He expressed special thanks to Jeffery Helaney, president of the USKF, and whoever was involved in his nomination for the honor.

Botsford was nominated by either a parent or student and was selected for the honor by a review panel

Several Grand Masters, who hold an eighth-degree black belt, were also recognized and inducted, coming from other places in the United States and overseas. Eighteen awards were presented.
