Trojans fight off Indian comeback

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Community College Indian baseball team got down 10-0 after four innings but battled back to put the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth before Colby Community College finished off the Indians 10-8 Tuesday at the Jaycees Sports Complex.

Four walks and a pair of Indian errors in the third inning contributed to six Trojan runs and four more walks and another error in the fourth led to four more runs and a 10-0 Colby lead. The Indians committed five errors in the game.

McCook alum Kaden Sitzman started the game on the mound and went 3.2 innings, walked seven, allowed six hits, and struck out two. Only three of the 10 runs were earned. Spencer Ray (Greeley, Colo.) came on in relief in the fourth inning.

The Indians got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Following a walk, a Colby error and a single off the bat off Beau Hawley (Greeley, Colo.), Julio Seperich (Las Vegas, Nevada) doubled in two to make it a 10-2 game. Hawley scored on another Colby error to make it a 10-3 game and Jason Hill (Surrey, British Columbia) singled in Seperich to make it 10-4

Michael Sookdeo (Brampton, Ontario) singled to lead off the eighth inning and Chris Bellemare (Grande-Carriere, Quebec) followed with a single to right. After both runners moved up a base, Parker Kretzel’s RBI groundout to first made it 10-5. Bellemare scored on a Colby error to make it 10-6.

Tanner Zeggil led off the ninth with a walk, stole second and went to third on a Jason Hill single. After one out, Dalton Bartling (Ashland, Neb.) reached on a three-base error on the pitcher and both runners scored to make it 10-8 but the Indians left the tying run at the plate.
