Beaver Valley firefighters, with help from Red Willow Western firefighters and tank trucks, fight a short-lived fire in the neighborhood of County Roads 705 and 387 south of McCook and west of Marion Tuesday evening. The fire is believed to have spread from burning trash. Fire chiefs throughout Southwest Nebraska are banning burning because of extremely dry and windy conditions. Red Willow Western fire chief Bill Elliot says, “Absolutely no burning of anything anywhere for any reason.” Ask him for a burn permit and he’ll reply, “Are you kiddin’ me?” Forecasters predict a chance of rain Thursday into Friday. Firefighters say, “Bring it on.”
