McCOOK, Neb. -- Velora A. (Rogers) Schmahl of McCook passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Community Hospital. She was 99 years old.

Velora was born on May 19, 1918, to Henry and Elma (Oyster) Rogers at Atwood, Kan. She graduated from Atwood High School in 1936. She then went to work for Foster Farms as a bookkeeper. There she met Wayne M. Schmahl and they married January 11, 1941. To this union two daughters were born, Jean and Janeale.

Velora loved to cook, water color, sew and all types of crafts. She and Wayne fished every chance they got when living in Choctaw, Ark. She was very active in the church and doing things with her daughters.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry and Elma Rogers; her husband, Wayne Schmahl; daughter, Jean Vader; granddaughter, Jodi Vader of Loveland, Colo.; brothers, Alden and wife, Edith Rogers, of Atwood, Kan. and Sam Rogers of Red Feather Lakes, Colo.; sister-in-law, Muriel and brother-in-law, Judd Thomas of Englewood, Colo. and brother-in-law, John Schmahl of Windsor, Colo.

Those left to remember her are her daughter, Janeale and husband, Barry Corder, of McCook; granddaughter, Shannon Corder and great-granddaughters Maria and Christina Schaben of McCook; granddaughter, Debbie Vader of Commerce City, Colo.; grandsons, David Vader of Tacoma, Wash. and Eric Vader of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and seven nieces.

Memorials may be given in her name to the McCook Humane Society.

There will be no viewing, however, friends may sign her book at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel during business hours on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friends may send words of comfort to the family at www.herrmannfh.com.

Graveside services will be Thursday, Mar. 1, 2018, 1 p.m. at Oberlin Cemetery, Oberlin, Kan., with Father Gary Brethour officiating.
