McCOOK, Neb. — Beverly J. Alred, age 78, passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at Community Hospital in McCook.

Bev was born Aug. 29, 1939, to Samuel Rufus and Josephine (Griffin) McMichael. She graduated from Cotton Valley High School in 1957. Then she attended St. Joseph Catholic Nursing School in Hot Springs, Ark., receiving a degree in nursing.

Bev went on a blind date with Malcolm Alred on a Wednesday and they got married on the following Saturday. The marriage lasted 52 years until Malcolm passed away in 2011.

Bev was a member of the Baptist faith. She moved to McCook in 2012 from Indiana; before that, she lived in Dallas and Hot Springs, Ark. She loved to read, play the piano, go camping and fishing. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with her family. She loved her pets.

Bev is survived by her daughter, Natalie Alred of McCook; three sons, Mac (Gwen) Alred of Hot Springs, Ark., Kenneth Alred and Roger Alred, both of McCook; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Malcolm; and one brother, Michael.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Cobblestone Hotel & Suites in McCook with Zach Haller officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Cotton Valley, La.

Memorials may be given to the McCook Humane Society, 100 South Street, McCook, NE 69001.
