Devils rough on 'Riders in playoffs

KENESAW, Neb. — Undefeated Kenesaw scored 21 points in the first and second quarters of a 57-0 state playoff win over Southwest Thursday evening.

The Blue Devils dominated behind a dynamite senior rushers Tyson Burr (121 yards, two touchdowns) and Daniel Duffy (10 carries, 100 yards, three TDs).

Quarterback Tyler Pulver attempted just two passes on a windy evening, but he ran for another two scores while gaining 76 yards on seven rushes.

Southwest (4-5 final record) reached the D-1 playoffs with a 64-20 trouncing of Alma last week.

They totaled 114 yards on Thursday led by senior Ryan Van Pelt rushing nine times to 39.

Junior Kaden Guerrero added 26 yards, but the tough Blue Devil defense only permitted 2.4 yards per carry overall.

Senior Wyatt McConville caught the only Roughrider pass completion covering four yards.

On defense, senior Cody Downey delivered 15 tackles including seven solos.

Senior Tanner Brooks added seven stops and McConville added six.

Senior Stephen Duffy’s 22 total tackles topped the Blue Devil shutout effort. Kenesaw (9-0) advances to next week’s second round.
