CULBERTSON, Neb. — Donations, fund-raisers and grants are enhancing the 60-some-year-old public pool in Culbertson.

Swimmers and guards are taking full advantage of this summer’s Phase One improvements, which include a new spiral Vortex slide and new lifeguard chairs. The phase also includes new concrete and wind-sail shades on the east side of the pool.

The second phase will entail more new concrete decking, a new epoxy floor finish in the pool-house, and new wiring in the pool-house that will allow the installation of a vending machine. A new permanent cantilevered structure will provide shade on southwest deck.

Organizers — and swimmers — are also anticipating a pool heater.

Plans also include a zero-entry baby pool, possibly with some splash pad-type water features.

The community’s CIP committee has been responsible for planning and fund-raising, including grants from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation and the Modern Woodmen of America.

The Culbertson pool is open 2-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. daily. It opens each year on Memorial Day and remains open until school starts in the fall. It’s located in the city’s Hillside Park at 500 Arizona.

Day passes are $2 for adults; $1.50 for junior-senior high students; and $1 for elementary students. Call (308) 278-2277 for more information.
