Big Give McCook returns Nov. 9

McCOOK, Neb. — After a successful first year, Big Give McCook will return this fall on Thursday, Nov. 9.

But there are a few changes planned for the 2017 Big Give McCook. The biggest difference will be the number of organizations involved in the one-day fund-raiser.

In addition to the 18 organizations included in the 2016 Big Give McCook, local nonprofit organizations are invited to join the 2017 Big Give McCook. Simply visit the Big Give McCook website (www.biggivemccook.org) and fill out an application under the “Sign up” form.

To participate in Big Give McCook, organizations must have a 501(c)3 exempt status in good standing with the IRS and be located and provide services for Southwest Nebraska. Private foundations and political or governmental organizations are excluded from the event. Religious organizations are also excluded except those providing community programs. All applications must be approved by the McCook Community Chest Board. Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, August 1.

Big Give McCook is one day dedicated to philanthropy, where every donation — large or small — can make a difference. From midnight to midnight on Nov. 9, everyone is encouraged to make a donation to some of their favorite nonprofit organizations whether online or in person at “giving stations” around McCook. People can choose not only how much money they would like to donate but where they would like the money to go — with even more options likely at the 2017 Big Give McCook. There will also be matching funds, provided by local businesses supporting the event.

During the 2016 Big Give McCook, nearly $92,000 was raised on a single day. The McCook Community Chest, which coordinates the Big Give Day, hopes to at least match and hopefully pass that number this fall.

The Community Chest provides financial resources to a dozen agencies in McCook, which serve the basic needs of the community. Community Chest is a sub — account of the McCook Community Foundation Fund, which also provides financial support for Big Give McCook.
