McCook man catches HR ball at Coors

Wednesday, April 12, 2017

DENVER, Colo. – Both his athletic skills and protective instincts paid off for McCook’s Sam Frazier at the Colorado Rockies game Monday evening.

Frazier showed fans across the major leagues he can both juggle a baseball and catch it.

Not much was happening until 2016 All-Star D.J. LeMahieu launched a drive to deep right field in the sixth inning.

Former Bison athlete Frazier hadn’t lost his focus even though the Rockies were trailing 4-0.

The ball sailed just above Coors Field’s out-of-town scoreboard where Frazier and wife Leah sailing.

It barely cleared the yellow line officially marking LeMahieu’s solo home run, but excitement really started as Frazier made his attempt at a catch.

His main focus mentioned on Facebook was to protect Leah as neither were wearing their ball gloves.

Frazier made the barehanded attempt — which initially bounced from his grasp — but he snared it before fan could swipe away this rare souvenir.

While his athletic skills were on full display, the Rockies went on to only their third defeat in eight games this season. They did regroup and defeat the Padres, 3-2, on Tuesday night.

Colorado’s currently 6-3 and one game from the National League West Division lead with “only” 153 to play. They are home against San Diego in a series finale today at Coors Field.
