McCOOK, Neb. -- Arthur H. Dunker, age 93, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Community Hospital in McCook.
He was born on April 6, 1923, at the family farm north of Ludell, Kan., to Herman C. and Marie (Domsch) Dunker. Arthur was baptized into the family of God by Pastor Otte, and was confirmed into the Christian faith in 1937. He attended the Trinity Lutheran Parochial School for seven years and public school for the eighth grade, then high school at Atwood Community High School and a semester at Central Commercial College in Denver, Colo.
Arthur served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947, where he was stationed in Germany and then returned home to farm and ranch north of Ludell, Kan., until retirement.
Arthur was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church of rural Ludell, until the church was destroyed by fire. He then became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson, Neb. He was also a member of the Lutheran Layman's League.
Arthur lived a hard working, simple and conservative life on the farm, where he enjoyed caring for his cattle and taking care of the land. He also enjoyed family get-togethers and entertaining his many nephews and nieces.
Arthur is survived by his sister, Hilda Holste of Ludell; brother, Eugene and wife, Barbara of Ludell; sister-in-law, Celene Dunker of Ludell; brothers-in-law, Harry Thowe of Russell and Erwin Thiele of Colby; many nieces, nephews and their families, plus a multitude of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eltora Thiele, Viola Thowe and Clara and husband, Hubert Hestermann, and their son, Clifford Hestermann; brother-in-law, Ernst Holste; nephew, Craig Dunker; and brother, Harold Dunker.
An 11 a.m. memorial service for Arthur will be held Jan. 20, 2017, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 712 Colorado Street, Culbertson, with the Rev. P. Bradley Rick officiating. Inurnment will follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery north of Ludell, Kan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Culbertson, in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
