LEXINGTON, Neb. -- Josiah Hegwood and Von Fritsche teamed up for a second-place finish in No. 1 Doubles to lead McCook tennis at Friday's Lexington Invite. The Bison finished fifth with 25 points.

"We missed out on where we wanted to finish as a team," said head coach Matt Wiemers. "However, we got a great effort from Josiah (Hegwood) and Von (Fritsche) at No. 1 Doubles."

Hegwood and Fritsche would defeat doubles teams from Lexington (8-0), Gering (8-0) and Kearney Catholic (8-5) to send them to a championship match against Holdrege. The Duster duo would go on to prevail 8-2.

McCook's No. 2 Doubles team of Zion Moyer and Caden Bortner finished fourth, thanks to wins over Gering (8-0) and Kearney Catholic (8-2). Their two losses were to Lexington (9-7) and Holdrege (8-3).

Spencer Krysl also recorded a fourth-place finish at No. 1 Singles. The senior defeated players from Gering (9-7) and Kearney Catholic (8-0), while losing to Lexington (8-2) and Holdrege (8-3).

At No. 2 Doubles, Sam Knoll took seventh place. Knoll lost to Lexington (8-4) and Gering (8-4), but bounced back with wins over Kearney Catholic (8-1) and Alliance (8-0).

Holdrege took the team title with 32 points, while Lexington finished runner-up with 29. Scottsbluff (27 points), North Platte (26) and McCook rounded out the top five teams. Kearney Catholic (21) and Gering/Alliance (4) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

The Bison are in action today, as they host North Platte in a duel beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Bison Tennis Courts.
