Walter Walkey Fortin

ATWOOD, Kan. -- Walter Walkey Fortin, 77, died Saturday (Sept. 17, 2016), at the Rawlins County Health Complex in Atwood.

He was born July 22, 1939, in Allison, Kan., to Fred John and Mary Emma (Walkey) Fortin. He graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1959. He married Donna Bridgmon in Hamlet, Neb., on Dec. 30, 1962. He worked as a plant manager at Tabco Flexagraphic Printing in Kansas City, Kan. He moved to Oberlin, Kan., in 1982 and worked as a farm hand and custodian for Oberlin United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dewey, Keith and Jim Fortin; and sisters, Martha Stimbert, Mary Kaspar, Wilma Bliven and Virginia Bucklinger.

Survivors include his wife, Donna, of the home; children, Ryan and Amanda Fortin of Oberlin, Marla and Leland Kehler of Loveland, Colo., and Melissa and Dan Nelson of Syracuse, Neb.; brother, Noah and Sheryl Fortin of Pasco, Wash.; sister, Dottie Holliday of Palestine, Texas; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many other family members.

Funeral services were today at Oberlin United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Oberlin Cemetery. Memorials may be given in his name to Pauls Funeral Home, 121 N. Penn Ave., Oberlin, KS 67749 (www.paulsfh.com).
