McCOOK, Neb. -- A plea agreement was reached in Red Willow County District Court earlier this month with a McCook man facing a pair of felony charges stemming from the theft of a local car and unrelated theft of a motorized wheelchair.

The man, 18-year-old Keaton S. Carpenter of 102 South Street, will subsequently face sentencing on a Class IV felony offense for theft by unlawfully taking property valued between $1500 and $5000, in addition to a Class I misdemeanor for theft of property valued between $500 and $1500. Carpenter was originally facing a Class 2A felony alleging a 2006 Dodge Charger stolen from the area of the South Street service road was valued at more than $5000. The plea agreement reduced the charge to theft of property valued between $1500 and $5000, a Class IV felony, while also admitting guilt to the misdemeanor theft of a motorized wheelchair from the Lazy L trailer court in McCook.

The vehicle belonged to Bink Binkley while the motorized wheelchair was property of Howard Brawdy, according to court documents.

Carpenter was subsequently scheduled for sentencing at 10 a.m. on Sept. 12, 2016, in Red Willow County District Court.
