Search is on for legendary 'Blue Goose'

McCOOK, Neb. -- It was long and blue and legendary and its "disappearance" is almost as legendary as the stories former students and instructors tell about McCook Community College's "Blue Goose."

The blue extended-length Checker airport limousine was a fixture at MCC in the 1970s and 1980s.

It hauled students to sporting events, field trips and became a staple in area parades.

Many students recall trips in the "Blue Goose" to summer class trips to the Niobrara River for canoeing.

Many instructors recall the challenges the goose presented to them when attempting to park and manipulate through traffic in cities like Kansas City, Houston and Dallas.

"We don't' really have any historical evidence of when the bus arrived on campus or when it was 'christened' the 'Blue Goose' but we'd sure like to hear from people who remember it," said Chuck Salestrom,

"Rumors still abound ... Is it still somewhere in west central or Southwest Nebraska?" said Chuck Salestrom, Area Associate Vice-President of Public Information and Marketing at Mid-Plains Community College.

"We'd sure like to find out some more information about its history and specifically where it ended up, who owns it and where is it located?"
