CULBERTSON, Neb. -- Clyde Edward Eyl of Culbertson passed away on July 18, 2016, in Kearney, Neb. He was 76 years old.

Ed was born to parents William Clyde and Lillian Maxine (Jones) Eyl on Oct. 2, 1939, in Denver, Colo. He was one of three sons born to this union. Growing up, Ed attended school at Mother of Good Hope Catholic School in Hollywood, Calif.

Patriotism was very important to Ed. He began serving his country in 1956, at the age of 17, when he enlisted as a Marine Corps Reserve. He was honorably discharged in 1959. Ed re-enlisted in the Unites States Army in 1960, proudly serving an additional three years before his honorable discharge in 1963.

On Nov. 23, 1963, Ed married the love of his life, Valda Rae (Tyma) Eyl, in Colorado Springs, Colo. They were blessed with seven children. The family made their home in Parker, Colo., where Ed worked for the Gates Rubber Company as a fan belt builder. Ed retired in 1994 at the age of 55 before moving to Culbertson.

Following his retirement, Ed stayed active by riding his bike between 20 and 40 miles a day, and attended FROGS (Fitness Reaching Older Generations) each Thursday. He also enjoyed fishing, boating and camping with his family. He spent time in the evenings watching the television game show, Jeopardy.

Ed was a former city council member for the City of Culbertson. He also served on the Culbertson building committee for many years.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Kaley Eyl and Vincent Eyl.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Val Eyl; his seven children, son, Brian (Tami) Eyl of Trenton, Neb., daughter, Brenda (Randy) Reed of Conroe, Texas, son, Craig (Teri) Eyl of Aurora, Colo., son, Bradley (Tisha) Eyl of Ozark, Ala., daughter, Christine (Monte) Tjelmeland of Sioux Falls, S.D., son, Curtis (Lisa) Eyl of Centennial, Colo. and daughter, Kimberly Eyl of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and his two brothers, Frank (Nina) Eyl of Port Angeles, Wash., and Paul (Vickie) Eyl of Harker Heights, Texas. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service with military honors will be Tuesday, July 26, 2016, beginning at 11:30 a.m., at the Church of God in Trenton with Pastor Jason Smith officiating.
