AURORA, Neb. -- Marvin LeRoy Carriker, age 86, of Harvard, passed away Thursday (June 23, 2016) at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Harvard. Rev. Travis King will officiate. Interment will be in the Harvard Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.

Marvin LeRoy Carriker, the son of LeRoy Strawn and Erma Katherine (Keller) Carriker was born in Harvard, Nebraska on Nov. 21, 1929. Marvin was the sixth of eight children. He was baptized on Feb. 15, 1931, at his parent's home. He spent many hours playing along a creek near his childhood home, north of Harvard. Marvin graduated from Harvard High School Class of 1947. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany from January of 1952 -- December of 1953, during the Korean War.

Marvin was united in marriage to Nadine Ruby Arp on Aug.14, 1955. To this union, three children were born. Nadine passed away in July 1989. Marvin married Mary Marie Schwasinger on April 14, 1990. Marvin farmed in the Harvard and Trumbull communities. Marvin was a member of both the Trumbull and Harvard United Methodist Churches. He enjoyed singing and was an avid camper and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nadine; both parents; four sisters, Ruth Thayer, Bernice Worthey, Alta Rauscher and Laura Dana.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Marie of Harvard; three brothers, Wayne Carriker of Grand Island, Dean Carriker of Aurora and Orlo (Arlene) Carriker of Phillips; two sons, Steve (Mary) Carriker of Clay Center and Kenneth (Vivian) Carriker of Culbertson; one daughter, Debra (Randy) Fitzke of Clay Center; step-children include David (Julie) Schwasinger of Ogalalla, Richard (Diane) Schwasinger of Wichita, Kansas, Mary Dale Nuss of Ogalalla, Greg (Pam) Schwasinger of Denver, Colorado and Brad (Jackie) Schwasinger of Castle Rock, Colorado. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and their families, and 10 step-grandchildren and their families.
