Memorial garage sale, raffle, to benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital

McCOOK, Neb. -- When McCook-area farmer-rancher-trucker Doug Hauxwell died in August last year, his family requested in his obituary that his friends "do something kind and generous for someone today" in his honor.

To continue Doug's legacy of kind-heartedness, his family and friends plan a "Doug Hauxwell Memorial Fundraiser" garage sale and raffle, and proceeds will go to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Doug's name.

The garage sale will be Saturday, July 16, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., in the 4-H Building on the Red Willow County fairgrounds in McCook. Raffle winners will be drawn at 4 p.m.

Raffle tickets will cost $2 each, or six tickets for $10. Some of the prizes are: Willow Creek Meats, $250 gift certificate; Plains Equipment, 1/16-scale 8370R John Deere tractor; Titan Machinery, 1/16-scale Magnum 380 CVT tractor; Sehnert's Bakery, dinner and show tickets at the Bieroc; VK Electronics, $50 gift basket; Schmick's, $25 gift certificate; C&K Distributors, a 21-piece drive socket set; Walmart, $100 gift cards; Samway Furniture, rug; Klein's Motor Electric, DeWalt drill/driver; Barnett's Do-It Center, Black & Decker cordless screw driver; Arby's, five meal tickets, Knowlen & Yates, Starfrit saucepan; Laura Clause of Wilcox Financial, Fitbit Zip; Whitaker Furniture, hall tree; and Gillen's Carpet Cleaning, carpet cleaning.

Donations of garage sale merchandise -- no clothing -- can be dropped off at the 4-H Building Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, July 13, 14 and 15, between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
