MCC announces results from Inter-High Day

McCOOK, Neb. -- McCook Community College dished out more than $20,000 in scholarships Wednesday and 80 academic medals as part of the college's Inter-High Day academic competition.

More than 400 students representing 19 area high schools from Nebraska and Kansas tested in 26 academic areas this year on the MCC campus. $500 scholarships were awarded to the top placing tester in each academic area. In addition, MCC awards the top three placers in each test with three summer credit hours of free tuition.

Students from Sutherland, Arapahoe and Eustis-Farnam claimed the top team titles Wednesday. Sutherland placed first in the large school division, Dundy County-Stratton was second and McCook placed third. In Division 2, Arapahoe took home top honors, Paxton placed second and Quinter, Kan., third. Eustis Farnam topped all schools in the small school division, Hitchcock County scored second and Brady third.

In addition to the academic testing, MCC departments conducted demonstrations and informational sessions about their academic programs.

The academic sessions concluded with the always popular improvisational Theater Competition in the Weeth Theater in Tipton Hall. This year's top improvisational team was Maxwell, Cambridge was second and McCook third.

Algebra 2 - 1. Will Kisker, Hitchcock County; 2. Colton Thompson, Eustis-Farnam; 3. Kylee Hauxwell, McCook.

American Government/History - 1. Paul Calvert, Dundy County-Stratton; 2. Nathan Fleecs, Sutherland; 3. Zach Whips, Hitchcock County.

Athletic Training - 1. Jacob Gardner, Arapahoe; 2. Aubrey Frederick, Dundy County-Stratton; 3. Madison Lambley, Dundy County-Stratton.

Biology - 1. Jacob Gardner, Arapahoe; 2. Dominic Naughtin, Sutherland; 3. Kade Bose, Southern Valley.

Chemistry - 1. Southern Timm, Eustis Farnam; 2. Madison Lambley, Dundy County-Stratton; 3. Tucker Hartley, Maywood.
