Grace Esther (Swanson) Emmett

AUBURN, Neb. -- Grace Esther (Swanson) Emmett, one of two daughters of Swan Arthur and Ann Mabel (Roberts) Swanson, was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Hastings, Nebraska. She attended school in Hastings and graduated from high school in 1943. Grace went on to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she was an Alpha Phi and received a bachelor's degree in business in 1948.

On June 3, 1948, Grace was united in marriage to Roland E. Emmett in Papillion, Nebraska. They made their home in Arapahoe, Nebraska, and were blessed with four children: Scott, Kathleen, Sarah, and Mary. Roland was a banker and Grace owned and operated an insurance agency in Arapahoe for many years.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Arapahoe, as well as PEO, Order of Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary. Grace loved animals, especially dogs. Above all, however, she loved her kids and grandkids and was very proud of them all.

In 2009, Grace moved to Auburn, Nebraska, where her daughter Kathy lives. She resided in Long's Creek Assisted Living until June of 2015, when she moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. She passed away there on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 at the age of 90 years, three months, and 30 days.

Her husband, Roland, sister, Mary Ann Hessenflow and daughter, Sarah Emmett, preceded her in death.

Grace is survived by her children, Scott and wife, Barbara Emmett of Scotia, Nebraska; Kathleen and husband, Gary Ensz of Auburn; Mary and husband, Bill Fitzke of Sun Lakes, Arizona; grandchildren, Shawn Emmett, Andrew Ensz, Mary Ensz and husband, Darrel Moreland III, Jordan Debban, Kristin Debben, Brian Fitzke, Brad Fitzke, Deb Weber, and Rhonda Eggleston; great-grandchildren, Christian and Makayla Emmett, Elsie and Avery Moreland; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Arapahoe, officiated by the Rev. Karen Watson. Special music was provided by Scott Emmett. Casket bearers were grandchildren, Shawn Emmett, Andrew Ensz, Mary Ensz, Jordan Debban, Kristen Debban, Brian Fitzke, Brad Fitzke, Deb Weber, and Rhonda Eggleston. Burial followed in the Arapahoe Cemetery.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
