Area music students performed with UNK Honor Band on Monday

KEARNEY , Neb. -- High school vocal and instrumental music students from 112 high schools in Nebraska and Kansas were selected to participate in the University of Nebraska at Kearney's Honor Band and Choral Clinic on Monday.

The event included 711 students and featured three choirs and two bands, which rehearsed all day before presenting a 6 p.m. concert at the UNK Health and Sports Center. The honor choir was directed by Jing Ling-Tam, professor of music at University of Texas at Arlington.

The UNK Honor Band and Choral Clinic is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors who were selected through auditions.

Those selected from Southwest Nebraska include:

Arapahoe: Alexandra Lee, Levi Watson, Brendan Lee, Derek Monie, Korey Rathe, Jacob Gardner, Morgan Deisley, Alexus Shivelbein, Michael French, Pedro Gutierrez, Abraham Whitson.

Chase County: Kristina Pflum, Noah Griffin.

Dundy County Stratton: Laura Nelms.

Hitchcock County: Isabell Sheets, Brooke Scott, Anita Mockry, Aubrey Wagner, Courtney Hrnchir.

McCook: Lexi Gross, Tara Daniel, Taylor Williams, Josiah Heywood, Shannon Wiemers, Allison Tolliver, Ahria Golden, Lindi Johnson, Shelby Stevens, Beth Hoyt, Seth Griger, Ethan Wilcox.

Perkins County: Melany Morales, Andrea Winkel, Nathan Kemling, Kenyon Gaar, Haven Wid, Jaci Kurkowski.

Southern Valley: McKaylla Christian, Zackary Long, Kaci Ross.

Southwest: Bethany Fickle, Shelby Nelson, Kyle Van Pelt, Karlie Swink, Alex Porter, Stevie Wadle, Ashley Kragelund, Brady Porter.
