Janet LaVonne (Appleyard) Newcomb

CAMBRIDGE, Neb. -- Janet LaVonne (Appleyard) Newcomb of Cambridge passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at the Good Samaritan TCU Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was 64 years old.

Janet was born on March 7, 1951, at McCook, Nebraska, to Oliver J. and Nola B. (Stone) Appleyard.

Janet grew up in Curtis, Nebraska, and graduated from Medicine Valley High School in 1969. She was a Curtis Aggie for three years and one of the first Medicine Valley Raiders. Janet was a cheerleader, girl's state recipient and shared honors for class valedictorian.

Janet moved to McCook, Nebraska, in 1969. She married Paul Dow Newcomb in McCook on Dec. 3, 1972, and made her home in Cambridge for 43 years with her husband.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Nola Appleyard; father and mother-in-law, Paul and Wilma Newcomb; sister-in-law, Marie (Newcomb) Degner; husband, Raymond; and sons, Michael and Barry.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Dow Newcomb of Cambridge; daughter, Theresa Newcomb of Tea, South Dakota; sons, Matt Newcomb and wife, Tristan, of Eustis, Nebraska, and Bryan Newcomb of Kearney, Nebraska; sister, Marilyn Johnson and husband, Earl, of Curtis, Nebraska and Judy Mercer and companion, Paul Paz, of McCook, Nebraska; brother-in-law, William Newcomb and wife, Annette, of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Chase Paul Newcomb of Curtis, Nebraska, RyLee Jo Lynn Young of Tea, South Dakota, Kellan June Newcomb and Drew Kevin Newcomb of Eustis, Nebraska; numerous family and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Memorial service will be Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Cambridge, Nebraska with William Weaver officiating. On-line condolences at lockenour.com.
