ARAPAHOE, Neb. -- Michael Dan Adams, 60, died Sunday (Dec. 6, 2015), at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood.

He born Nov. 16, 1955, in McCook, Nebraska, to Donald D. and Lila V. (Helton) Adams. He grew up in Arapahoe, Nebraska, and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1974.

After high school he received appointments to both the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy. He chose the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, graduating in 1978 with a degree in civil engineering.

In June 1978, he married Melody Hector of Swan Lake, New York. They lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, before moving to Enid, Oklahoma, where he took pilot training at Vance Air Force Base. After graduating, he returned to Vance AFB as an instructor pilot. He was a pilot instructor in San Antonio, Texas at Randolph AFB. In 1985, he returned to the family dirt contracting business and also joined the Nebraska Air National Guard in Lincoln, Nebreaska. He was president of Adams Construction Company for many years.

He was a member and later president of the Arapahoe-Holbrook Board of Education, one of the director of First Central Bank board of directors, and member of the Arapahoe Area Foundation, Arapahoe Airport Authority, Board of Trustees and Administrative Council of the Arapahoe United Methodist Church and the Cambridge and Shelton UMCs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Adams; father-in-law, Howard Hector; and infant sister, Dawn Elaine Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Melody of Arapahoe; daughters, Rebecca and husband, Kevin Selin of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Katherine and husband, Logan Dettmann of Waverly, Nebraska; mother, Lila Adams of Arapahoe; brother, Merle and wife, Benita Adams of Arapahoe; sister, Christine and husband, Douglas Snyder of Arapahoe; mother-in-law, Georgia Hector of Arapahoe; and two grandchildren.

Services are Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with Revs. Alan Davis and Becky Saddler officiating. Interment will follow at Arapahoe Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Arapahoe American Legion and Offutt Air Force Base Military Honor Guard

Viewing and visitation is Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.
