NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Gail Wesch, 94, of North Platte, formerly of Maywood, Nebraska, died Saturday (March 28, 2015), at Linden Court in North Platte.
She was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Frontier County, Nebraska, to Frank and Ethel (Barrett) Owen. She married Fred Wesch on June 24, 1942, in North Platte. They moved to a farm near Wellfleet where they farmed and raised three daughters. She was a teacher for many years and taught at Wellfleet, Maywood, and rural schools. In 1968, she and her husband moved to Maywood. Following her husband's death in 1973, she worked as the office manager for the Frontier County Farm Bureau.
She was a member of the Parliamentarian Club, the United Methodist Women, Willing Workers Club, Area Agency on Aging Board Member, local, state, and national officer of the Federated Garden Club, Park Avenue Investment Club, flower show judge, and a 4-H club leader.
Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; sisters, Ruth Nichelson and Janet Kelly; and brother, John Clinton Owen.
Survivors include her daughters, Burdella Bacon and husband, Ken of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Betty Tidyman and husband, Glenn of Sutherland, Nebraska, Barbara Fritsche and husband, Randy of Maywood; sisters, Lois Kjar of Buffalo, Missouri, and Lila Maline of North Platte; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday, April 2, 2015, from 1 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Curtis, Nebraska.
Services are Friday, April 3, 2015, 1 p.m. at Maywood Methodist Church with the Rev. Tammy Aubushon officiating. Interment will follow in the Maywood Cemetery.
