OBERLIN, Kan. -- Rex Alan Olson, 54, a 1979 graduate of Decatur Community High School, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He was born Nov. 27, 1960, at the Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin, the son of Keith and Mary Lou (Bendon) Olson.
He was reared on a farm south of Herndon and attended Oberlin schools. He was confirmed at the Herndon Covenant Church and attended Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette, Colorado. Rex graduated from Kansas State University in 1984 with a Master of Science degree in architecture, then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to begin his employment as an architect.
Rex married Anne Callow on Oct. 10, 1987, in Phoenix. They later moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he was the owner of Olson Studio and Design. They later divorced.
Survivors include his children, Seth Olson, Columbus, Ohio; Samuel Olson, Greeley, Colorado; and Abigail Olson, Niwot, Colorado; his parents; a brother, Mark (Barbara) Olson, Hoxie; and a brother-in-law, James (Kimberly) Witt, Oberlin.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Julie Witt, and his grandparents, Robert L. and Hattie (Schmidt) Olson and Leo and Esther (Hanson) Bendon.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with Pastor Keith Reuther officiating. Burial will be in the Oberlin Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m.-9 p.m., with the family present from 7-9 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.
