CURTIS, Neb. -- Nellie Mae Hammond, 90, of McCook, Nebraska, formerly of Curtis, Nebraska, died Friday (Jan. 9, 2015), at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
She was born March 20, 1924, at Curtis to Sam and Daisy (Walker) Wood. Sh married Gail Hammond and they farmed between the Moorefield and Curtis area. During World War II, she was a seamstress in Pennsylvania. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Neighborly Belles of Moorefield and the United Methodist Church of Curtis. She later moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home due to health reasons.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and all her brothers and sisters; one grandson, Nathan, and two great-grandsons. Rowan and Dalton.
Survivors include her children, Denny Hammond of Moorefield; Janet and husband, Marty Maaske of Holbrook, Nebraska, and Dorothy Harms and Marilyn Davisson, both of North Platte, Nebraska; son-in-law, Dean and wife, Cathy Nutt; daughter-in-law, Cece Hammond; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Viewing and visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services are Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Curtis, Nebraska, with the Rev. Bonnie Forney officiating. Interment is at the Curtis Cemetery at Curtis.
Memorials may be given to Hillcrest Nursing Home of McCook, Nebraska or Senior Living Choices of Curtis, Nebraska.
