McCOOK, Neb. -- Imelda M. Hays, age 82, of McCook, passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014.
She was born in McCook on Dec. 31, 1931, to Andrew and Mary (Schutte) Kohmetscher.
She attended school in McCook. On April 2, 1951, she was united in marriage to Paul Hays at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. Paul preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 2007. To this union four children were born: Phillip, Michael, Gregory and Charlotte.
Imelda was employed as the head of housekeeping at the Community Hospital in McCook Hospital and later at Hillcrest Nursing Home as head of laundry services. Imelda retired from her work in 1995.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Altar Society and BPOE Does. She and Paul enjoyed traveling and visiting family. She also enjoyed games of chance. She loved to bowl, play bingo and card games and collecting dolls and Depression glass.
Imelda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; granddaughter, Angela Horne; great-grand child, Oscar Dutcher; siblings, Kenneth Kohmetscher, Victor Kohmetscher, James Kohmetscher, Roberta Coppel and Betty Hull.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte and husband, Allen Dunworth of Culbertson, Nebraska; three sons, Phillip and wife, Cyndi Hays of Fort Wright, Kentucky, Michael and wife, Anna Hays and Gregory and wife, Cindy Hays of McCook; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Ann Stritt of Indianola, Eunice Norman of Rochester, Minnesota and Deanna Kohmetscher of McCook.
Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Father Thomas Schultes officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 9, 2014. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in McCook.
Memorials may be left in her name to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
