Thirteen-year-old Elizabeth Blaser of rural Duncan, Nebraska, and "Whiz Be Quick" -- Liz and Quincey, for short -- will compete in the Great Plains Futurity of the Central Plains Reining Horse Association Oct. 3-5 at the Kiplinger Arena in McCook, Nebraska. At the same time, they and fellow young competitors will sponsor a CPRHA Youth event called "Hooves for Hunger," asking spectators on Saturday, Oct. 4, to pay "admission" with non-perishable foods (or monetary donations) that the young riders will then deliver to the McCook Pantry. Bob Hardy, a volunteer at the Pantry, said items of greatest need are canned fruits, meats and vegetables, soups and stews; peanut butter, pork and beans, dry pasta, rice, beans, breakfast cereals, flour, sugar, crackers, canned and dry milk, boxed macaroni and cheese, eggs, margarine and bread.
