Local cowboys win events at finals

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- McCook, Nebraska, cowboys Garrett Nokes and Brady Hageman won in events during the Nebraska State Rodeo Association finals in North Platte Sept. 5-7 and in end-of-the-year NSRA standings.

Other competitors with Southwest Nebraska ties were winners during the finals and final standings.

Hageman won first place in steer wrestling's first and third rounds, dragging his steers down in 4.3 seconds in each round. In the second round, he placed second with a time of 4.6 seconds. Fellow McCook cowboy Chad VanCampen won the second round with a time of 4.0 seconds and placed third in the third round with a time of 4.6 seconds.

Hageman won first place in the steer wrestling end-of-the-year standings, earning $7,089.41 during the season. VanCampen came in fifth, earning $5,252.20 during the season.

Garrett Nokes's finals winnings included third in the calf roping in the first round, 11.0 seconds; second in the second round, 10.4 seconds; and third in the third round, 9.9 seconds.

He and Matt Wilken won the second round of the team roping, with a time of 5.6 seconds.

In the end-of-the-season standings, Nokes placed first in calf roping, $8,898.52; seventh in the team roping/header, $4,152.45; and first in the all-around men's division, with $13,211.71.

During the finals rodeo, Deb Christy of Norton, Kan., (who competes in and is a member of the NSRA) placed second in the barrels in the first and third rounds, running the pattern in 18.18 seconds in the first round and 18.03 seconds in the third round. In the end-of-the-year standings, she placed third, earning a total of $7,459.35 during the season.

In the end-of-the-year standings, the Clark brothers of Wellfleet ended up in the Top 10 of the barebacks: 3. Jaden Clark, $3,430.75; and 5. Wyatt Clark, $3,314.14.

Jaden Clark earned third place in the "Rookie of the Year" competition, earning $3,430.75 during the season. Wyatt Clark earned 10th placed in the all-around men's division, with earnings of $3,615.61.

Levi Tyan of Wallace, originally of Hayes Center, placed first in the end-of-the-season team roping/header, with earnings of $8,220.35.
