McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors will take another look at the chamber's goals, mission statement, and overall direction at their next meeting in September.

The makeup of the chamber board is continually evolving, as well as recent changes in staffing at the Chamber office.

For that reason, it is very important that the board set clear priorities for staff, according to Chamber Director Tacie, Fawver.

She encourages any chamber member to share their ideas with her or with a chamber board member. The board will also be reviewing feedback from a 2012 survey of chamber members to assist in the goal-setting session.

The chamber has seen a lot of changes in its recent history. Fawver was promoted to the executive director position in June 2012, after serving as assistant director for a little less than a year. Recently, a new administrative assistant was hired to replace Linda Theiben, who retired after eight years of service to the chamber.

Dee Spicer began her duties as administrative assistant on Aug. 4. She recently moved to McCook from Halstead, Kansas, a community of about 4,000 just northwest of Wichita.

"I love the friendly and welcoming community," Dee said of McCook. "My husband and I look forward to becoming a part of the community and investing the rest of our lives to this area."

Dee has a background in real estate and she most recently worked for a non-profit organization, the Harvey County Homeless Shelter, as a bookkeeper.

She loves to meet new people and help plan events, a skill that will be put to use in her duties with the chamber. She also loves to bake and try new recipes.

Another upcoming change for the chamber will come in November, when they will relocate to office space at 203 W. Second Street. "We love the Keystone and being on Norris Avenue," Fawver said.

"But people have trouble finding us here on the second floor."

The new location at West 2nd and B Street will provide better visibility for the chamber, a conference and storage area, and ample parking. Fawver hopes to be moved by Nov. 1.

Chamber staff and volunteers are finalizing plans for the 2014 Heritage Days Sept. 24-28. Honorees have been chosen and applications for Heritage Days Royalty have been sent to McCook Public Schools, Southwest, and Victory Christian Academy. Booth space is filling up fast, with 40 commitments so far.

Fawver encourages businesses, organizations, reunion groups, and individuals to enter a float in the parade. "With our theme, 'Grow With Us,' there could be a lot of really fun float ideas," Fawver said.

She asks that anyone wishing to enter a float contact her office so a narrative can be prepared for the announcers at the parade.
