Dancing the night away

Tuesday, June 24, 2014
Mary Swanson Poore remembers the "Silver Prom" that she, Larry Magrath and KBRL radio personality and announcer Phil DeHaan organized and sponsored on April 9, 1948, in McCook, Nebraska's Memorial City Auditorium. Mary said the prom was her first date with Don Poore, who would become her husband on Sept. 30, 1950. They're pictured among dancers immediately in front of the stage. Music for the dance was provided by "Music by Mills." Mary wonders, "Bobbie Mills?" Mary and others at the High Plains Historical Society are wondering also about the identity of other dancers; call the museum at (308) 345-3661 if you can help with identities. Mary shared the photograph with historical society members who attended the society's annual meeting June 21. (Photo courtesy High Plains Museum)
