City-wide garage sale planned for Crazy Days

Friday, June 13, 2014

McCOOK, Neb. -- Planners are encouraging McCook residents to participate in city-wide garage sales in conjunction with McCook Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Crazy Days promotion July 18 to 20.

The idea is to promote bargains all throughout the community on that weekend and create a bargain-hunting frenzy by advertising the event not only locally, but also through area media in North Platte, Kearney, Holdrege and beyond.

Participants who would like to have a garage sale that weekend have until Friday, July 11 to call the Gazette and place an ad in the garage sale listings that will be available at participating merchants for out-of-towners to pick up. The listing will also be published in the Gazette. The cost of the garage sale ad will be $10 and is limited to 5 lines.

Anyone who does not have a place for a garage sale is welcome to set up a table at Orscheln's parking lot to sell their goods. Contact Chad at Orscheln's at 345-5390 for more details. Other locations may also become available as the date draws near.

For those who prefer a more strenuous activity, the Young Professionals Group will again sponsor the "Color Me Crazy Run" on Saturday, July 19 with check-in starting at 6:15 a.m. at the upper shelter house in Kelley Park. Early registration is $25, includes a t-shirt, and is due by July 1. After July 1, registration is $30 and no t-shirt will be given.

Other activities planned for Crazy Days include the costume contest for merchants on Thursday and artists' displays and demonstrations at various participating merchants throughout the three-day event.

In addition to Crazy Days planning, the Chamber is also looking further ahead to Heritage Days in late September. The celebration will kick off with the mixer at McCook National Bank on September 24. The Chamber is accepting entries for the parade, as well as applications for booth space in Norris Park. They are also encouraging anyone who would like to share their musical talents to contact the Chamber at (308) 345-3200 to get on the list for entertainment in the park.

The Chamber board of directors chose Quality Urgent Care as the third quarter honor business. "Quality Urgent Care is a great supporter of the Chamber, not only through their participation in our events, but they also are one of the biggest purchasers of Chamber gift certificates. They volunteer or sponsor a lot of events," said Fawver.

Next month's board meeting will include a goal setting session and installation of new board members. Fawver encourages chamber members to contact her office to let her know of any particular items they would like to have the Chamber include in upcoming goals.
