Who will run?

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Dear Editor,

2014 is a time when various candidates are running for Congress and the Senate. 2016 is the next election.

George Washington and other founding fathers did not want a dynasty or a monarchy. They made certain that American was a "Republic" or a form of government that elects officials.

This did not discourage us from electing presidents who are related to each other.

John Adams (1735-1826), the second president had a strong influence on the life and political career of his con, John Quincy Adams (1767-1848). John Quincy Adams became president in 1825. He served in the House of Representatives after he was president of the U.S.

Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901) was the 23rd president. His road to that office was influenced by the fact that his grandfather, William Henry Harrison (1773-1841) was the ninth U.S. president. Unfortunately, William Henry Harrison died after only 31 days in office.

Kales Martensen Van Roosevelt, a Dutch landowner in New Amsterdam (New York) was an ancestor to three important political figures. They included Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1945) as well as Eleanor Roosevelt (FDR's wife and distant cousin.)

This leaves us wondering if J.E.B. Bush, son of George H.W. Bush, and brother of George W. Bush, will run for president in 2016 successfully.
