Sunday snacks are a game of big numbers

Friday, January 31, 2014

They say a football game is a stadium full of people desperately in need of exercise watching 22 guys desperately in need of rest.

If you're still making progress in your effort to get fit, don't let Sunday's festivities derail your New Year's resolution.

Without advance planning, there's no way you're going to avoid falling off the fitness wagon.

Want some examples?

Those buffalo wings? Just four of them carry 210 calories, and most of us are just warming up at that number.

Ranch dip?

Don't even ask. A serving of the fatty delight -- two tablespoons -- is 170 calories.

Domino's delivery pepperoni pizza is 324 calories a slice, loaded nachos 600 calories and beer? Two cans of Budweiser is almost 300 calories.

If you can't resist, you aren't alone.

All in all, most of us consume 2,000 calories and 81 grams of fat during the game. Americans will eat about 11.2 million pounds of potato chips, 8.2 million pounds of tortilla chips, 3.8 million pounds of popcorn, and 2.5 million pounds of nuts.

Oh, well, there's alway a chance to get back in the fitness game on Monday ...
