Fall colors at the lake

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

A red truck slices through a canyon of fall colors across Enders Dam in Southwest Nebraska. When the days shorten and temperatures cool down, the resulting slow-down and break-down of the green pigment chlorophyll allows ever-present, but back-stage, yellow, gold, red and purple pigments to take center stage. A fall with sunny days and cool nights increases the sugar content of leaves and intensifies fall reds.
