McCook man indicted in Palisade robbery

OMAHA, Nebraska -- U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that the Federal Grand Jury for the District of Nebraska has returned an indictment against a rural McCook man in connection with the robbery of a credit union in Palisade.

The man, Joel L. Witt, age 36, is charged in a two-count indictment. Count I charges Witt with bank robbery of the Pioneer Community Federal Credit Union, Palisade, Nebraska, on or about April 18, 2011. It is alleged he obtained $11,576.00 in the robbery. The maximum possible penalty, if convicted, includes 25 years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, a 3-year term of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment. Count II alleges Witt used a firearm during this bank robbery. The maximum possible penalty includes 7 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a 3 year term of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.
