McCOOK, Nebraska -- Gwendolyn "Gwen" Arline Riemer, 86, passed away Saturday (Jan. 29, 2011), at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Gwen was born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1924, in Aurora, Nebraska, to Christian and Elizabeth (Fritz) Schaffert. At an early age, she moved with her family to the Culbertson, Nebraska community where she graduated from Culbertson High School in 1943.

On June 4, 1944, she was united in marriage to Lester Riemer in Culbertson. They remained in the Culbertson community where they raised their four children: Kathy, Kenny, Keith and Kristi.

Gwen was a busy mother and homemaker. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Gwen was known for her baking and cooking. Among favorites of the family included her cinnamon rolls, pies and cheesy noodles. She was a meticulous housekeeper and was always busy doing something. She enjoyed her flowers, crocheting, card playing with family and friends, and holidays spent with her children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Lester Riemer on June 2, 1997; daughter, Kathy White on Feb. 24, 1993; parents, Christian and Elizabeth Schaffert; brother, Eugene Schaffert; and sister, Lucille Gohl.

Survivors include her two sons, Kenny Riemer and wife, Gloria of Eckert, Colorado, and Keith Riemer and wife, Malissa of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter, Kristi and husband, Kip Korell of McCook; son-in-law, Larry White of Riverton, Wyoming; brother, Gerald Schaffert and wife, Virginia of Culbertson; sister, Joyce and husband, Roland Snuttjer of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Stacy Lehnen and husband, Fred of Riverton, Celest White of Riverton, Cassandra Riemer of Bentonville, Arkansas, Justin Korell and wife, Angie of Watertown, South Dakota, Brian Korell of Culbertson, Kelsey Korell of McCook and Hunter and Jenna Mandilk of Las Vegas; 11 great-grandchildren, Miranda Esquibel-Lehnen, Derrick Lehnen, Marissa Lehnen, Briauna White, Samantha Morrin, Dylan Giere, Nicholas Hogan, Dara Hogan, Kaelan Riemer, Presten Korell and Peyten Korell.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation is today from 1-8 p.m.

Funeral services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating. Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery.
