Public hearing set to discuss home wind turbines in ag zoning

Thursday, January 6, 2011

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook Planning Commission will host a public hearing Monday, 5:15 p.m., at council chambers to consider zoning ordinance changes that would allow individual domestic wind turbines in an Agriculture District.

According to the meeting agenda, city staff has found that jurisdictions throughout the country are allowing the use of domestic use wind turbines predominantly in agriculture zones, where setbacks, visibility issues and noise to neighbors are less of a concern.

The planning commission will also host a second public hearing to discuss a request for a special exception from the sand and gravel mining operation on road 714, along the Republican River. The operation desires to expand onto adjacent property, owned by Sid and Susan Doak, with no increase to hours, noise or traffic necessary.
