BRIDGEPORT, Nebraska -- Lester "Ivan" Boman, 79, formerly of Bridgeport, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 4, 2011), at the Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska.

Lester, the son of Lester Earl and Dora Opal (Stites) Boman, was born May 24, 1931, in Bridgeport. The family lived in the Rock House, built by his grandparents, located seven miles east of Broadwater, Nebraska. In 1934, they moved to a farm south east of Bridgeport. Ivan served in the U.S. Army 1955-57, spending 18 months in Japan. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Broadwater.

On Jan. 12, 1954, he married Grace Louise Kepler of Broadwater in Gering, Nebraska to this union four children were born, Coleen Louise, Rita Gaylene, Clifford Duane and Lorraine Donette.

Ivan and Grace farmed in the Bridgeport area until 2005, when they sold their farm, moving to McCook, Nebraska in 2008.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life. He loved the farm and working with his livestock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Dora Mae Sawyer.

Survivors include his wife of almost 57 years, Grace of McCook; daughters, Coleen and husband, Chuck Wilcox of Palisade, Nebraska, Rita and husband, Bob Waltemath of McCook, Lorraine and husband, Lee Hill of Houston, Texas; son, Clif and wife, Sophie Boman of Sidney, Nebraska; brother, Earl Boman of Broadwater; brother-in-law, Ronald Sawyer of Creswell, North Carolina; grandchildren, Marsha and husband, Luke Kesselring, Melissa and husband, Chris Maris, Michael McKain, Tiffany and husband, Chris Corbett, Whitney Jones and fiancé, Aaron Goodenberger, Kyle Boman, Brody Boman and fiancée, Maddie, NaTasha and husband, Dave Roggasch, Judy and husband, Cisco Aguas, Cody and wife, Brittandy Stuart and Bo Dee Romero; great-grandchildren, Kyndell Kesselring, Avory and Halee Maris, Oliver and Calvin Corbett, Korey and Skyler Boman, Xzavior, Jeremiah, Zachariah, and Kollin Roggasch, Chea, Galaxie and Wrwuby Aguas; nephews and nieces; special little boys, Evan Rosewitz and Jamin Richards; and numerous friends and family.

His funeral services are Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Messiah Lutheran Church with Ann Bairn, PMA officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Broadwater with military honors by the Nebraska Army National Guard.

Visitation is Friday, 1-8 p.m., at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel.

Memorials may be given in Ivan's name to the church, Broadwater Volunter Fire Department, McCook Home Health Care or Callahan Cancer Center in North Platte, Nebraska.
