Area high school sub-district volleyball results

Four area team advanced to the finals in Class C and D sub-district volleyball tournament action around southwest Nebraska Monday, Nov. 1.

Southwest, Cambridge, Eustis-Farnam and Hitchcock County were the four area teams that advanced to sub-district finals Tuesday, Nov. 2.

In the Class C2-11 Sub-District at Hershey Monday, Southwest advanced to the championship match with a hard-fought win over North Platte St. Pat's in Monday's semifinals. Southwest won by scores of 20-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19, 15-13.

Allie McConville had 24 kills and Madison Mousel added 23 kills for the Roughriders. McConville also hit 4 ace serves and led her team with 17 defensive digs, and Mousel had 3 blocks. Laura Ruggles had 51 set assists for Southwest.

Southwest takes a 25-4 record into the C2-11 Sub-District final Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Perkins County. The Grant school, seeded second, beat 21-9 Dundy County Stratton 25-22, 13-25, 25-16, 30-28 in Monday's other semifinal.

North Platte St. Pat's ended Chase County's season with a 20-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-26, 16-14 marathon win in Monday's first-round to earn the right to face Southwest in the finals.

Cambridge advanced to the Class D1-11 Sub-District final with a 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-15 win over Maxwell Monday evening. The top-seeded Trojans will meet Sutherland in the sub-district final Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Gothenburg.

Class D-2 sub-district results

Eustis-Farnam, seeded third, upset second-seed Anselmo-Merna in the semifinals of the D2-9 Sub-District tourney Monday evening at Cozad High School. The Knights claimed 23-25, 25-17, 25-13, 22-25, 15-8 decision.

Eustis-Farnam advances to the finals Tuesday at 7 p.m. to meet top-seed Brady, a a 25-10, 25-21, 25-13 winner over Medicine Valley in Monday's other semifinal.

Medicine Valley beat Maywood in a battle of area teams in first-round D2-9 action Monday. Medicine Valley won a 25-21, 25-18, 25-12 decision to reach the semifinals.

Hitckcock County will battle Wallace Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. CDT in the D2-10 Sub-District final at Perkins County High School in Grant. The Falcons, seeded third, topped second seed Paxton 25-19, 25-16, 25-18 in Monday's semifinals. Wallace, 23-0, beat Wauneta-Palisade 25-11, 25-4, 25-15 in the other semifinal.

In an area first-round battle in the D2-10 first round, Wauneta-Palisade topped Hayes Center 25-13, 25-20, 25-13.

Other area results

Two other area teams lost in sub-district semifinal matches Monday night.

Southern Valley was eliminated from the C1-11 Sub-District at North Platte with a five-set loss to Gothenburg. The Eagles lost a 16-25, 25-23, 13-25, 25-16, 15-11 decision.

Alissa Brooks and Paige Quinn each had 10 kills for Southern Valley. Mollie Bose had 5 ace serves, and Quinn hit 3 ace serves.

Gothenburg will face Hershey in the C1-11 Sub-District final Tuesday evening.

Arapahoe dropped out of the C2-10 Sub-District Tournament at Kearney Catholic with a 25-17, 25-21, 25-21 semifinal loss to Shelton.

Rochelle Wendlend had 4 kills and 4 ace blocks to lead the Warriors. Cayla Polston had 3 kills and a team-high 17 defensive digs. Makayla Wendland had 4 ace blocks, and Michele Borden also had 2 ace blocks.

Shelton advances to face Ravenna Tuesday evening in the C2-10 Sub-District final.

District finals, state

Tuesday's sub-district tournament champions advance to district finals Thursday and Friday, Nov. 4-5. Sites and start times for the district finals will be announced Wednesday.

District final winners qualify for the 2010 Nebraska State High School Volleyball Championships Nov. 11-13 at multiple sites in Grand Island and Hastings.
