Duane I. Bourne, 84, died Wednesday (Feb. 24, 2010) at Community Hospital in McCook.

He was born May 3, 1925, at Edison to C.P. and Inez (Holton) Bourne. He grew up at Edison and Oxford. He attended and graduated from Oxford Schools in 1940. He also attended colleges at Kearney, Greeley, Colo., and Chicago, Ill., as well as Musical College and School of Mines at Rolls, Mo.

He served in the U.S. Army from January, 1951, to January, 1953. He taught school at Benkelman, Burwell, Ogallala, Indianola and Exeter. He lived with his parents and helped them in their bus depot business from 1953 to 1976, when not teaching.

He was of the protestant religion and a member of the American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents in the middle 1970s.

Survivors include cousins and friends.

Memorials may be given to the McCook Humane Society.

Graveside services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at the Arapahoe Cemetery with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.
