Reckless comments
Dear Editor,
I am shocked at the reckless comments being made by Dick Trail. Not only are they disrespectful in tone but his accusations border on libelous. It is hard to believe that anyone in McCook could ever take this man seriously on anything.
It is often difficult to follow his line of thinking, but it seems that either Mr. Trail is accusing Senator Nelson of selling his vote, which is insulting, or that Mr. Trail actually wanted him to sell his vote. He even suggests a figure of $300 million and then makes suggestions of how to spend it. It makes your head spin wondering if Dick Trail was against pork before he was for pork.
Then, he tries to pass himself off as an investigative reporter by stating that he "researched his (Nelson's) Web site, his Sunday appearance on ABC's "This Week" and other places on line but evidently nobody is talking." Talking about what?
Rational people understand that if someone is selling their vote it would be all over the news and that during an appearance on ABC last Sunday Senator Nelson certainly would have been asked about it. Even Mr. Trail should have asked himself why nobody is talking after admitting that nobody is talking. Because there's nothing to talk about.
The only person talking about such a ludicrous idea is Dick Trail.
Nebraskans know Senator Nelson and while we may disagree on issues from time to time, they know he operates with honesty and integrity. He voted solely so the Senate can debate health care reform.
He did not vote for the bill itself no matter what you may have heard.
Considering that health care costs, up 80 percent this decade, will rise another 100 percent the next decade if nothing's done, the responsible vote was to debate the bill, and he got nothing in return for that vote.
Sincerely,
Jim Fagin
Deputy Director of Communications
Senator Ben Nelson
