Marine, military celebration Nov. 14

Monday, November 2, 2009

Dear Editor,

Attention Marines, Air Force, Navy, Army:

As you are well aware, Marines celebrate their organization's birthday every year.

Tuesday, Nov. 10 will be the 234th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. McCook has had a good group of participants these past 8-10 years.

This year, we would like to delay the celebration until Saturday, Nov. 14. We have learned that the Lonny Lynn Orchestra will be at the Republican Valley Event Center, playing from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday night.

We can have a short party there starting at 5:30 that day. Order off the menu if you like and cut our Marine Corps birthday cake before the "Ball."

We also think veterans and active duty personnel from other branches of the military should celebrate their heritage. As such, we would like to make everyone aware of several other activities.

McCook National Bank is again having a Veteran's Appreciation lunch on Tuesday, Nov. 10th from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The front counter at MNB will also have 80 complimentary tickets for veterans for the dance Saturday night (20 for each of the four major branches of the service). If you plan to attend th dance, you may pick up a ticket on Nov. 10-12 or 13.

Spouses or guests will need to pay $12.50 at the door.

We think we have the $250 to cover the cost of the Marines tickets, but would appreciate help to pay for the tickets for our good fellow service members in other branches.

If anyone would like to help support this activity, please write a check to The Republican Valley Event Center and leave it at Ameriprise Financial Services (219 W. First Street) or at the ESU 15 office at 305 E. First Street.

If we collect more than we need, we will donate excess to McCook Toy Box. If we collect too little, we will be out with our "tin cups". We did not ask MNB to help support this endeavor since they are doing a lunch and will provide door prizes for veterans at the dance.

Semper Fi,

Duane Tappe and Daniel Stramel

McCook
