Magazine apologizes to senator
Friday, October 23, 2009
Newsweek magazine has apologized for featuring Sen. Ben Nelson in its Oct. 12 "Indignity Index," in which it chided him for suggesting healthcare reform wouldn't be "legitimate" without a Senate supermajority when he had won elections with a smaller margin.
"A review of the full context of his remarks shows that the senator was making a broader point about the desirability of a large majority to signal widespread support for reform," the magazine published in an editor's note in the Oct. 26 edition. "Newsweek regrets the item," it concluded.
