OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- University of Nebraska junior Brandon Crick, a McCook High School alum, played in the U.S. Open Sectional golf tournament Monday at Milburn Country Club in Overland Park, Kan.

Crick qualified for the sectional by placing in the top three at the local qualifier at Arbor Links Golf Club in Nebraska City.

Crick finished the sectional in a tie for seventh place by shooting a two-round total of one under par 143. He posted the second best amateur score.

Ryan Spears of Del City, Okla., advanced to the U.S. Open by winning a playoff with Sean Daugherty from Overland Park. Both had posted two-round totals of 138.

"Brandon did play well," said his father Jeff. "The course was very difficult and all of the players had the capability of scoring low."
