LAMAR and LA JUNTA, Colo. -- The McCook Community College women's basketball team dropped two road contests this past weekend at Lamar and La Junta, Colo.

In the first game of the road doubleheader Thursday night, the Lamar Community College Lopers beat MCC 78-53.

"We did not play well in any team facet," said MCC assistant coach Carter Roe. "However, we did have a few solid individual performances, most notably Sierra Guy, who has really been playing well."

MCC lost to Otero Community College 54-47 on Friday night.

"The next night against Otero Community College we were an entirely different team," Roe said. "This past week we really had a great week of practice, probably our best week of practices of the entire season, so the outcome against Lamar was very surprising.

"That said, Friday night was really a big step forward for us as a team even in defeat. We played without question our best game of the year, from tip to finish, the ladies were dialed in and focused on the game plan and on one another.

"Even though we lost in terms of the score, we won in a lot of ways and the game was a joy to be a part of. Skylar Johnson's leadership was tremendous per usual and Julia Hale and Michell Price were excellent. We got a great effort out of Stevie Russak, who has really embraced her role on our team, and Britney Bunker was tremendous in the second half."

MCC's next game is Jan. 17 against Southeast Community College in Beatrice.

"We are really expecting big things from here on out from the team. We can't wait," Roe said.
