CAMBRIDGE -- Delores L. Petersen, 80, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2008) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born in Cambridge on Feb 3, 1928, to Walter J. and Louise (Schutte) Trant. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1945, and attended the Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in Lincoln receiving her Registered Nursing Diploma.

On Oct. 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Eugene "Pete" Petersen. He preceded her in death in September 1999.

After her graduation from nursing school, she worked for the McCook Hospital for two years. At that time the Cambridge Memorial Hospital opened, where she worked for more than 40 years until her retirement. She served as floor nurse, the director of nursing, supervisor of nursing, surgical nurse and many other nursing positions.

She was a dedicated nurse and received the Caring Kind Award and the Lutheran Hospital and Homes Society Award for 25 years of dedicated services to the hospital and the community.

She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the altar society and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; two sisters, Elizabeth Perkins and Mary Kay Holsten; one brother, Walter "Jack" Trant; and granddaughter, Jamie Ann Shoemaker.

Survivors include her son, Dennis and wife, Marty of Cambridge: two daughters, Cheryl and husband, Dallas Wymore of Kearney and Janet and husband, Gary Lytton of Shelton; one brother, Richard and wife Allene Trant of Omaha; six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Barnhill officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m., with rosary at 7 p.m., at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
