Husker baseball headed to Big 12 Championship

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The seventh-ranked Nebraska baseball team begins its postseason run this week, as it travels to the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City for the 2008 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship.

The event begins Wednesday and runs until Sunday with the championship game being shown nationally on FSN.

The Big 12 Tournament format is different from most other conference championships, as the field is divided into two four-team pools, with the team with the best record in pool play advancing to Sunday's title game.

Nebraska's bracket consists of conference runner-up Oklahoma State, sixth-seeded Baylor and seventh-seeded Kansas State. The Huskers will play all three teams in a round-robin format.

The other bracket consists of regular-season champion Texas A&M, fourth-seeded Missouri, fifth-seeded Texas and eighth-seeded Oklahoma.

Nebraska will be looking for its 40th win of the season on Wednesday, as it begins bracket play against Baylor at 4 p.m.

Fans across Nebraska can listen to Greg Sharpe and Lane Grindle call the action on the 27-station Husker Sports Network, including US 93.9 FM in McCook, and on the Internet at Huskers.com.

The Huskers (39-12-1) will be off on Thursday before games against Kansas State (Friday, 4 p.m.) and Oklahoma State (Saturday, 4 p.m.). NU went 6-3 against the teams in its pool -- all on the road - including series wins at Kansas State and Baylor.
