HERNDON -- Clarence J. "Kayo" Sattler, 93, died Monday (March 24, 2008) at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.

He was born Oct. 12, 1914, in a sod house in Richland Township in Rawlins County, to George J. Sattler Jr., and Elizabeth Kleidosty. He grew up in Herndon and attended country school and graduated from Herndon High School in 1933. He attended one year at Kansas State University of Manhattan, Kan.

He married Stella Niemeth on May 5, 1936, in Herndon. He worked as a farmer on the family farm, before moving to Herndon in 1957.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Herndon Senior Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth Sattler; wife, Stella in 1997; and two brothers, Leo and Lewis.

Survivors include his sons, Jerry and wife, Carol Sattler of Madison, Wis., and Tom and wife, Myra Sattler of Herndon; daughters, Pat and husband, George Cardinal of Salina, Kan., Lois and husband, Jerry Solko of St. Paul, Norma and husband, Roger Chichorz of Boulder, Colo., and Theresa and husband, Richard Rippe of Ludell, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.

Funeral services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herndon with the Rev. Galen Long officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and from 5-8 p.m., at the church with a vigil service at 7 p.m.; and Friday from 8 a.m., until time of service at the church.

Memorials may be given to the church or Herndon Senior Center.
