You might wonder

Thursday, February 28, 2008

Dear Editor,

You might wonder why the school board majority won't allow audible taping of the school board's meetings by its secretary, especially when the Open Meetings Law 84-1412 says that any person in attendance may record all or any part of a meeting of a public body.

You might wonder why school board members, except for the secretary, don't appear to own or have read the school law book.

You might wonder why parents with legitimate questions leave the school feeling frustrated at the lack of information and communication that is offered.

You might wonder where the fear comes from (parents, school board, other teachers, administration) when teachers or staff members are afraid to speak up or speak out on things they, and only they, see going on and know that are wrong and need fixed.

You might wonder why some members of the school board seem more interested in shielding themselves from public scrutiny of their debate and actions rather than being open about their actions.

You might wonder, but most if not all of these questions could be answered if you would attend meetings of the board or even run to fill one of the three positions that need to be filled this election.

Good luck and have fun!

The deadline is Friday at 4. There is no filing fee; simply go to the clerk's office at the courthouse and tell them you want to run for School Board. Please consider running .
